Fears of Market Bubble Prompt Investors to Seek Exit Strategy

Fears that the meteoric rise in stocks and commodities prices is creating another asset bubble have investors debating whether to pull back now or ride the rally until the bubble bursts next year when the Fed starts raising interest rates.

Warnings about another asset bubblewhich have become more pronounced recently from economist Nouriel Roubini as well as othersstem from concern that the market's continued rally is not the result of an improving economy but the Fed's low interest rates, which make dollar-denominated assets cheaper.

Week Ahead: Stocks Search for Catalyst in Quiet Week

Stocks could side step temporarily as investors look for the next catalyst that will break the market out of its current range.

A last blast of third quarter earnings news is expected this week, including from consumer-driven companies like Disney DIS and major retailers, like Wal-MartWMT , Nordstrom JWNand Macy'sM . The economic calendar is relatively light, but a group of Fed speakers could get some attention. There is also $81 billion in Treasury note auctions scheduled in a holiday-shortened week for the bond market.

Commodities Demand Is ‘Trend to Stay,’ Barclays Says

(Bloomberg) -- Investor demand for commodities that helped drive gold to a record this week and copper and crude oil to one-year highs is “a trend to stay” as buyers diversify from stocks and bonds, according to Barclays Capital. Commodity assets under management climbed a “robust” $2.2 billion last month, Barclays Capital said in a report two days ago. Hedge funds and other speculators increased their “net- long” positions, or bets on higher U.S. commodity futures prices, to the most since July 2008, government figures show.
