AKARTA.

Nikkei futures wait for rebound and if can not break up resistant at 8557 then take sell at 8555 until target 8455 and stop loss at 8615, bearish target probability until 8345. (HP)

Kospi futures wait for rebound and if can not break up resistant at 228.52 then take sell at 228.50 until target 227.50 and stop loss at 229.10, bearish target probability until 219.53. (HP)

[Dow Jones] The HSI is set to rebound strongly, taking cues from U.S. stocks, with ADRs of local blue chips ending sharply higher vs their local closes Tuesday (Hong Kong market was shut Wednesday due to a public holiday). Convoy Investment Services CEO Eugene Law tips the HSI to rise 3%-4% today, but "make no mistake, this is another bear market rebound, given the economic troubles around the world." Hence, investors should try to offload some shares during the rebound, Law adds. Blue chip rises are likely to be broad-based, and leaders today may include Cnooc (0883.HK), on oil futures' 5.3% rally Wednesday, and HKEx (0388.HK), on bargain-hunting after its 18.1% slump over the past four sessions. The HSI ended Tuesday down 3.4% at a 29-month low of 16,250.27, and had fallen 10.4% over the last four trading days. (robert.li@dowjones.com)

[Dow Jones] Singapore shares are likely to rise following gains in U.S. and European markets, which came amid some heartening data from the U.S. and hopes a plan to recapitalize Europe's banks is in the works. Wednesday, the benchmark STI closed down 0.1% at 2528.71, taking its fall over the last three sessions to 6.5%. "We may see a little bounce, but again the market still in sell-on-strength mode. We'll probably see the (STI) index trying to clear its immediate hurdles at the 2579 level, ahead of 2603 and failure to clear those levels could see us ease back to 2503," says an analyst at a local brokerage. He adds, "the data from the U.S. looks okay, but everybody remains primarily worried about the situation in Europe." Corporate news is thin, but sectors to watch include offshore & marine, after benchmark oil futures surged 5.3% to $79.68/bbl in New York, and technology component makers, after news that Apple Inc.'s (AAPL) co-founder Steve Jobs passed away. (matthew.allen@dowjones.com)

Financeroll - Asian shares followed global stocks higher on Thursday, buoyed by a recovery across a broad range of assets on optimism over Europe's efforts to aid the region's financial sector and U.S. data suggesting the economy could avoid recession. An easing of risk aversion, after an intensive sell-off earlier this week on fears that Europe's debt problems could trigger a new global financial crisis, helped boost commodities while tightening the Asian credit markets sharply. The Nikkei stock average rose 1.4 percent on Thursday, tracking commodity- and tech-led gains in the United States. MSCI's all-country world index rose 2 percent on Wednesday.German Chancellor Angela Merkel said on Wednesday that Berlin was ready to recapitalize its banks if needed, adding some more reassurance following an agreement on Tuesday by European finance ministers to safeguard banks in the face of mounting concerns about a Greek default. Further adding to positive sentiment was data showing growth in the U.S. service sector stood steady in September and private hiring picked up, suggesting the economy was not yet slipping into recession. Asian credit markets reflected easing strains, with the iTraxx Asia ex-Japan investment grade index narrowing by 16 points on Wednesday after a sharp widening at the start of this week. U.S. crude oil steadied above $79 a barrel on Thursday as a surprise drawdown in U.S. crude inventories helped offset pressure from the euro debt crisis. On Wednesday, Brent crude bounced more than 2 percent to top $102 a barrel and U.S. benchmark futures jumped 5 percent. Investors were likely to remain cautious about whether the market relief would be sustained, ahead of key events including the European Central Bank's policy meeting later this session, the last meeting held under presidency of Jean-Claude Trichet, and Friday's U.S. non-farm payrolls.
The euro was steady against the greenback in early Asian trade amid uncertainty ahead of the ECB meeting which could see rates cut or the rebirth of long-term lending to banks. The euro is well off a nine-month trough of $1.3144 struck this week.(RTR/L8)

[Dow Jones] Precious metals are trading mixed with gold and silver slipping in early trade while platinum and palladium gain. Standard Bank analysts say there's a general lack of liquidity across precious metals partly due to the Chinese holiday season. "However, we believe that investors might also be acting cautiously ahead of this week's (U.S.) non-farm payrolls data (on Friday)." Physical demand continues to support gold below $1,650/oz with most demand coming out of Asia, the house says. Spot gold is at $1,635.80/oz, down $6.80 and silver is at $30.32/oz, down 19 cents from its previous close. Spot palladium gains more than 2.3% in early trade to touch $584.25/oz, the highest in the session so far. Spot palladium is last at $583.25/oz, up $12.25 and platinum is at $1,489/oz, up $2 from its previous close. (arpan.mukherjee@dowjones.com)

[Dow Jones] The USD/IDR is down at 8,900 vs 9,080 late Wednesday, tracking the USD's slid vs other currencies as Wall Street's rally Wednesday boosts risk appetite again, dealers say. "So far, the dollar buyers are still local names," a dealer says. He, however, expects foreigners may join in dollar-buying later today, although the amount is expected to be less than in the past three days, on expectations of a rebound in local stocks and bonds today. Bank Indonesia has not been seen selling the greenback, but it may do so later today as the market remains tight on dollar supply, say the dealers. A 8,900-9,050 range is tipped for today.
